PROFILE
For me, marketing is about exactly one thing: growth. Marketing must be designed, built, and
measured to grow the business it is intended to serve – whether that is revenue, customer acquisition,
customer retention, referrals, virality, etc.
I have been in Digital Marketing since 2007. My specialty is in the intersection of data (analytics, sales
optimization, business intelligence, customer success) and design (user experience, user interface,
selling psychology, behavioral economics, design thinking). I write about digital marketing and growing
technology businesses on my blog: zaru.co
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Marketing & Business Development Manager, Koombea.com, 12/12 - Present
Koombea is a 100 person mobile engineering and design agency. I run our lead generation and client success programs in North America and have been responsible for Fortune 500 clients like Samsung and Aetna. I also do customer acquisition and retention for our marquee products.
Marketing Manager, Conductive.co, 3/12 - 10/13
Conductive helps technology companies scale their marketing programs quickly. I use an even blend of very technical marketing and creative and branding strategies to build repeatable marketing machines. Projects usually include user acquistion, web/mobile design, sales optimization, and performance analytics.
Advisor, Outlisten.com, 10/11 - Present
Outlisten is a suite of YouTube marketing tools for musicians. I was in charge of creating the client facing user experience. I also pumped marketing analytics into our product offering. Now I serve as a non operational advisor to the company.
Marketing Manager, Bumebox.com, 5/11 - 4/12
Bumebox was one of the first companies to make a branded and performant social media experience, facilitated by Twitter and Facebook. In fact we were recognized by Twitter for doing so. As employee #1 I was responsible for all marketing and business development. I built out our suite of social analytics that were first of it's kind. I closed our first dozen clients, 3 of which were from the Fortune 500. I also ran our content marketing and PR lead generation engine.
Marketing Manager, Moxsie.com, 11/09 - 5/11
Moxsie was the biggest eCommerce destination for independent fashion and was acquired by Fab.com in 2011. I ran our customer acquistion and retention programs spread across 10 different channels. The highest impact programs I ran were the data warehouse, email marketing to 100,000 customers, first of it's kind Facebook and Twitter advertising, and an extensive and influential affiliate network.
Program Manager, Coupons.com, 06/09- 11/09
Coupons is the first successful online couponing service, and in 2014 they went public. I worked on special team that managed our biggest clients like Kraft and General Mills. I oversaw millions of dollars on a monthly basis.
Econometrics and Calculus Instructor, UC Santa Cruz, 2009
I was voted one of the most effective and most fun student instructors in the university.
Social Media Marketing Manager, Mediazone.com, summer 2007 and 2008
Mediazone is the USA arm of Naspers Media, one of the biggest media companies in South Africa and India. I was the youngest employee in the 200 person office and was tasked with social media, even though it was not yet called "social media" at the time. I made us successful in 20 countries for the 2007 Rugby World Cup, and won YouTube publisher awards for the 2008 Wimbledon.
Campaign Manager, UC Santa Cruz, spring 2007
We successfully overthrew a 10-year running incumbency for the office of Commissioner of Academic Affairs. Key to our success was Facebook ads, which were brand new at the time.
